The Sunday edit

One layer for a full fall day at the courts

A jacket for the changing day, a hoodie for young players, and a softer layer for afterward.

A note from Joshua

Chicago was warm this weekend, and the courts looked like everyone had reached the same conclusion. They were crowded throughout the day. I saw kids taking lessons and people playing whenever a court opened up.

There was no grand tennis moment to report. Just a lot of people making use of a good fall day. This is the part of the season I want to hold onto: bring a layer for later, find a court, and stay as long as the day lets you.

Vuori Crosscourt Jacket 2.0

Vuori describes the Crosscourt Jacket 2.0 as a lightweight, stretchy woven layer with water resistance for light protection on the court or course.

The first hour can still feel like summer; the walk home may remember it is October. This is the layer to leave in the bag until the day changes its mind. A full zip means it can come on between sets and come off when the court warms up again. The appeal is that it gives the day room to run long without dressing for a season that has not arrived yet.

One question before you go

What temperature makes a fall day a must-play for you?

Hit reply and tell me. Good recommendations have a habit of arriving from the next court over.

That’s enough gear for one Sunday.
See you at the courts,
